Stop Treating Social Media Like a Chore and Start Using It to Grow Your Business
Do you ever find yourself saying, “I know I should post on social media more, but I just don’t know what to say”? You’re not alone.
For many entrepreneurs, social media feels like one more thing on an already overwhelming to do list. It’s easy to compare yourself to everyone else, worry about saying the wrong thing, or wonder if anyone is even paying attention.
But what if the problem isn’t social media? What if the problem is simply how we’ve been thinking about it?
In this episode of the Why Not Today? Podcast, I invite you to make one simple mindset shift that can completely change the way you approach social media. Instead of viewing it as another obligation, start thinking of it as your marketing department.
For many small business owners, we don’t have the budget for television commercials, billboards, radio ads, or a full marketing team. What we do have is the opportunity to show up consistently on social media, build relationships, and stay connected with the people we want to serve.
What You’ll Learn
- Why social media should become your marketing department instead of another task.
- How to build genuine relationships without feeling pushy or salesy.
- Why consistency builds confidence and visibility creates opportunities.
- How to use the Know, Like, and Trust principle to attract more referrals and clients.
- The fun concept of Facebook Roulette and how it can introduce you to new referral partners, future clients, podcast guests, and friends.
- A simple daily marketing routine you can complete in about 30 intentional minutes.
Social Media Is About Relationships
One of the biggest mistakes entrepreneurs make is treating social media like a billboard.
Real business growth happens through relationships.
Think about walking into your favorite coffee shop. You don’t walk in, hand everyone a business card, and ask them to buy from you. You smile. You introduce yourself. You ask questions. You listen. You get to know people.
Social media works the same way.
The more conversations you have, the more relationships you build. And over time, those relationships turn into referrals, opportunities, collaborations, and clients.
Make Marketing Fun Again
One of my favorite strategies is something I call Facebook Roulette.
I click on Facebook’s friend suggestions and see who it recommends I connect with. Sometimes it’s someone I met years ago. Sometimes it’s a friend of a friend. Sometimes it’s a business owner who becomes a referral partner, a podcast guest, or even a client.
Instead of opening Facebook wondering what to post, I open it wondering:
Who is God putting in my path today?
That simple shift makes social media feel less like work and more like an opportunity to build meaningful relationships.
Your Challenge This Week
The next time you open Facebook or your favorite social media platform, don’t ask yourself:
“What should I post today?”
Instead ask:
“How can I help one more person know, like, and trust me today?”
That one question changes everything.
When you focus on serving one person instead of trying to impress everyone, your content becomes more authentic, your relationships become stronger, and your marketing becomes much more effective.
If you’ve been feeling frustrated with social media, I hope this episode encourages you to see it differently. You already have one of the most powerful marketing tools available. The key is using it with purpose, consistency, and a relationship-first mindset.
🎙️ Listen to this episode, then choose one simple action to take today. Spend 30 intentional minutes building relationships, encouraging others, or starting a new conversation. Your next client, referral partner, or opportunity may be just one connection away.
