How a Podcast, a Legacy, and One Question Became a Movement
Why Not Today did not begin as a business plan or a brand concept.
It began with a question and a legacy.
I am a Courage Coach and the founder of the Why Not Today podcast, but long before any of that existed, “Why not today?” was a way of thinking I learned from my father, Patrick Kane.
My dad did not wait for perfect timing. When something felt uncomfortable, uncertain, or easy to put off, his instinct was to act. Not recklessly, but intentionally. He believed that waiting too long often meant never starting at all.
That belief stayed with me long after he was gone and became the foundation for everything Why Not Today represents.
Why the Podcast Came First
The Why Not Today podcast was created in honor of my late father and his belief in action over fear. The original intention was simple: to create real conversations that reminded people they were capable of more than they realized.
The podcast features guests who share honest stories of overcoming adversity, pushing past fear, and taking courageous steps forward. These conversations are not polished or scripted. They are real, relatable, and grounded in lived experience.
As the podcast grew, so did the response. Listeners reached out not just feeling inspired, but wanting more.
They wanted guidance.
They wanted support.
They wanted connection.
That is when Why Not Today began to evolve.
From Inspiration to Coaching, Community, and Networking With Connection
Why Not Today expanded into coaching, workshops, and community events designed to help people move from inspiration into action.
Through coaching, I guide people on a transformative journey to build confidence, strengthen resilience, and take bold steps toward what once felt out of reach.
Community has always been at the heart of this work. Why Not Today events and gatherings are not about transactional networking or collecting business cards. They are about networking with connection.
They create spaces where people can show up as themselves, build meaningful relationships, support one another, and grow together. The belief is simple: when people are connected, courage multiplies.
The Story Behind Flat Pat
One of the most personal parts of the Why Not Today brand is Flat Pat.
My father, Patrick, was known for his distinctive look. A signature eye patch, a handlebar mustache, and a presence that left a lasting impression. In his handwriting, he often included a small doodled logo that reflected his appearance. That simple drawing became instantly recognizable to those closest to him.
After my father passed away, the idea for Flat Pat was inspired by the Flat Stanley project. Flat Pat became a playful and meaningful tribute, with versions traveling around the world through friends and family.
When I launched the Why Not Today podcast, I knew Flat Pat had to be part of the brand. He represents legacy, courage, humor, and the reminder that the people who shape us continue to travel with us through everything we create.
The Mission of the Why Not Today Movement
At its core, Why Not Today is a movement built on one simple mission:
To live life fully, be brave, and pursue our dreams.
This mission shows up in many ways. Through podcast conversations that inspire action. Through coaching that helps people move forward with clarity and confidence. Through community and networking with connection that reminds us we are not meant to do this alone.
Why Not Today is not about perfection or pressure.
It is about possibility.
It is about choosing courage over fear.
It is about taking action in the moments that matter most.
Where in your life are you craving more courage, connection, or momentum?
Choose one action today that helps you live more fully, be a little braver, or move closer to a dream you have been holding.
Small steps matter.
Why Not Today exists to remind you that courage is available right now. That connection makes us stronger. And that today is always a powerful place to begin.
Live life.
Be brave.
Pursue your dreams.
Why not today?
